PEG – Prince Eibei Gakuin, English World
PEG offers English classes to students of all ages from very young learners to adults. Our step by step approach using the “direct method” and “phonics method” aims to provide our students with the same learning opportunities as native English speaking children. Emphasis is placed not only on English but also on cross-cultural education. We regularly organize excursions and cultural events throughout the year. Classes are small, fun and lively, and we insure that students receive a sufficient amount of individual attention.
Activities
At PEG, English instructors work at one, or sometimes two schools. However, if there is a request for a substitute teacher at other schools, instructors may sometimes be dispatched. Instructors generally teach 5 or 6 lessons during a shift.
Sample PEG Shift Schedule, 13:00 – 21:00
12:55 | Arrive at work. Check the students’ attendance situation for today’s lessons (see who will be absent or coming for a make-up lesson. Sometimes you’ll have trial students.) |
13:15-15:00 | Plan the lessons. You will be developing a lesson plan with consideration to the student’s age, experience, number of students, the ratio of boys and girls and the characteristics of the students. |
15:30-16:20 | 1st lesson. Most students at this time will be kindergartners. Every month there is a specific theme introduced in the textbooks. You will teach the students the basics of alphabet, numbers and phonics with the guidance of the text. |
16:20-16:30 | hange-over time. During this time, you will see students off as well as you will put away the materials you used in the previous class and prepare for the next class. |
16:30-17:20 | 2nd lesson. Majority of students will be lower Primary school students. The class size will be bigger than the first lesson, with a maximum 8 students. The lesson content for students in this age group will be, basic sentence construction, spelling, writing and reading. |
17:20-17:30 | Change-over time. |
17:30-18:20 | 3rd lesson. Majority of the students will be upper Primary school students. The lesson content will be similar to the 2nd lesson but the vocabulary will be more complex. |
18:20-18:50 | Break. You can have a snack and prepare for lessons. |
18:50-19:50 | 4th lesson. Most students will be junior/senior high school students or adults. Sometimes, you may teach returnee students (who have lived overseas and returned to Japan). At these classes, conversational techniques will be introduced concentrating on the students’ listening ability. |
19:50-20:00 | Change-over time. |
20:00-21:00 | 5th lesson. Most students will be either High school students or adults. The lesson level will be similar to the 4th lesson but there will be more emphasis on developing basic conversation skills. |
21:00 | Day ends |
