Living Costs in Japan

It is said that living costs in Japan are expensive compared to other countries. However, a competitive salary in Japanese yen, full compensation for commuting expense, and a relatively low tax rate will allow you to enjoy a comfortable living standard, to travel, and to save some money. Of course, this will depend on the individual.

You will need to bring the equivalent of 150,000 yen to off-set start up costs such as additional housing appliances, food, and transportation.
* Commuting expenses will be reimbursed with your monthly pay. Therefore, this is another cost you must cover with your own savings in the initial month.

Please be aware that Kohgakusha pays on the 15th of each month. If you start on the first of the month, allow one and one-half months before you receive your first paycheck.
* Please bear in mind that Kohgakusha pays by the Calendar Month, and for the initial month, you will be paid only for the days you have worked.
